Now, with Moto Racer 3, returning developer Delphine Software and new publisher Infogrames have upped the ante considerably by somehow squeezing almost every conceivable form of two-wheeled competition on a single disc. From speed-drenched blacktop racing to dirt-encrusted supercross and motocross, trick-crazy freestyle, painstaking trials, and even a certifiably suicidal "traffic" mode, the game seemingly covers all the bases. Unfortunately, it also feels awkward and incomplete. In attempting to be all things to all PC motorcycle enthusiasts, Moto Racer 3 isn't quite as enjoyable or as polished as it could have been. That's not to say it is not without its charms, the foremost of which is its stunningly diverse selection of racing alternatives. In speed mode, you'll hurtle through long and accommodating paved racecourses at breakneck speed, the wind buffeting your helmeted head as you negotiate wide straightaways and huge sweeping corners. Players control both heroes at once, similar to Nintendos Mario & Luigi roleplaying game -- but the game is completely action-focused. Features include huge battles inspired by the comics, with more than 70 Romans at once, spanning 40 different levels. Urban Freestyle Soccer

During a recent visit to the sports area of Sonys PlayStation Experience event, we braved the crowds to get a little hands-on time with the PS2 version of Acclaims Urban Freestyle Soccer. In fact, we managed to play through the games entire training mode before we played a match, and since the games controls are so unconventional, were very pleased that we did. Watching other people playing Urban Freestyle Soccer before we got our turn, the game appeared to be incredibly complex, with a vast array of special moves and tricks that the soccer players can perform. Playing through the training mode, though, we discovered that what the game actually has is a whole load of fancy animations for even the most simple pass, chip, and shoot commands. Legitimate tricks and special moves do feature quite heavily in Urban Freestyle Soccer, but since most of them are performed simply by depressing a shoulder button and then pressing a second button, the game really isnt half as difficult to come to grips with as it appears to be.

Last year, Grand Theft Auto III took the world by surprise. While the first two games in the series had a small, hard-core following, their simple 2D graphics and lack of a focused narrative structure limited their appeal. Those improvements, coupled with amazing vehicle physics, a surprising amount of variety in the gameplay, and a great sense of style, made GTAIII a runaway hit and one of the rare games that is accepted by both hard-core and casual game players alike. But as good as Grand Theft Auto III is, the next game in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, improves upon it. Vice City expands on the themes and concepts found in Grand Theft Auto III, fixes a few of the minor issues in the last game, and adds a lot of new abilities and items to play with. It all comes together to form one of the most stylish and most enjoyable games ever released.

This fantastic program will have your brain working as hard as a mandrill on a conveyer belt with bananas dangling in front of it. Dont worry, well explain. The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions gives players dozens of tools that perform an action: balls that bounce, cats that chase (and dont bounce), pulleys, ropes, generators, and yes, mandrill baboons on conveyer belts, bananas a-dangle in front of them. Then players are given a problem to solve with all of this crazy energy. Heres an example: in one puzzle called Wood is Good, players must get three balls into a box, make wooden toast, and wood-smoke a hunk of gouda cheese for a mouse. Among the tools available to accomplish this task are a bike pump and an antigravity pad. And this is one of the easy puzzles. There are 250 gizmos to build here, some designed for single players and some designed for head-to-head puzzling competition. There is also a field where players can design their own Rube Goldberg Machine from scratch. The vast amount of projects and their complexity make this a program with staying power. Mercifully, there is a tutorial that takes rookies and right-brainers in hand. Players can choose four levels of difficulty: easy, which is quite challenging; to expert, which is insane. Mitigating the challenge factor is a function that turns the cursor into a question mark, and allows players to inspect gadget elements and get in-depth information about what each object and surface does.
